Frequently Asked Questions
Touch-Up, Repair & Refinishing
Can you fix small chips, scratches, or dents without refinishing the entire piece?
Absolutely — and that's actually what we do best. Most chips, scratches, dents, and color damage can be repaired on-site without touching the rest of the piece. We assess the damage first, match the color by hand using professional-grade color analysis and a trained artist's eye, and blend the repair into the existing finish. Most clients can't tell where the damage was. That's the goal.
Will the touch-up blend or be noticeable?
When done right — and we take the time to do it right — the repair disappears into the existing finish. Color matching is done using professional-grade color analysis combined with 15+ years of hands-on finish work. We don't leave until it looks right in natural light, because that's the only honest way to judge a surface repair.
How do you match color when the original finish has faded or aged?
This is where experience matters most. Faded, patinated, or UV-shifted finishes can't be matched straight from a formula — they have to be read by eye and adjusted by hand. We use professional-grade color analysis tools combined with an artist's trained eye to dial in the exact tone, depth, and sheen of your existing finish. Oak, maple, cherry, painted surfaces, laminate, veneer — we've matched them all across Orange County for over 15 years.
Are repairs done in my home or at your studio?
Most of our work is done on-site — we come to you across Orange County. Small pieces like cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and furniture items can be dropped off at our Tustin studio by appointment. And if a piece can fit in our SUV, we can bring it back to the studio ourselves — clients just arrange pickup when it's ready. Everything is by appointment only.
Do I need to remove everything before you arrive?
For cabinet touch-ups and on-site repairs — not much prep is needed. We'll let you know exactly what to move ahead of time based on the scope of work. For larger refinishing projects we'll give you a specific prep list. The goal is always to keep disruption to your home minimal.
Do the products smell?
We pride ourselves on using 100% professional-grade water-based materials — better for your home, your family, your pets, and the environment. Most simple touch-ups and repairs have very little smell. For larger refinishing projects we'll let you know in advance what to expect so you can plan accordingly.
How long before I can use the surface again?
It depends on the repair — how many layers, what product was used, the existing finish, and even the weather that day. A simple scratch repair on cabinetry is usually ready for that evening's use — you can make dinner. A good general rule of thumb is 24 hours for most repairs. For multi-process finishes it may be longer. We'll always tell you exactly what to expect before we leave, including what products to use — and not use — when cleaning the surface going forward.
Is my piece worth fixing or should I replace it?
If it means something to you — it's worth it. If it has good bones, is structurally solid, and just needs some surface love — it's worth it. If it's a family treasure, a cherished heirloom, or something that makes you happy every single day — it's absolutely worth it.
When it's probably not worth it: trendy pieces that have run their course, inexpensive items where the repair cost exceeds replacement value, or severely damaged structural pieces. The honest answer always depends on your goal for the piece. We'll tell you straight — we're not in the business of taking on jobs that don't make sense for you.
Kitchen & Bath Design Consulting
Can you work with my existing layout or do you offer full redesigns?
Both. We can work within your existing footprint — updating finishes, colors, hardware, and materials for a fresh look without moving walls. Or we can redesign the layout entirely if the space isn't working for how you actually live. And of course, if replacement is what you want, we can absolutely make that happen too — we have trusted contractors, vendors, and trade partners we work with, or we can work seamlessly with yours. Either way the approach is restoration-first — we look hard at what can be improved, adjusted, or reworked before recommending replacement.
How do you determine my personal style if I'm not sure how to describe it?
I walk through your space with you and pick up on the little things — the artwork on your walls, the furniture you've chosen, the colors that are already dominant in your home. I weave all of those elements together to find the thread that connects everything. I never push you toward something that isn't you or your home — I don't like a mismatch. What I love is balance, classic elegance, and timeless design that is so very you. Every person and every home has a magic feel — a theme, a color, a tone that's already there waiting to be drawn out. We refine toward something that feels right, cohesive, and completely yours.
How do you balance trendy elements with timeless design?
By leading with what's personal and functional rather than what's popular. Trends come and go — but a space designed around how you actually live, with materials and finishes chosen for quality and longevity, never feels dated. We'll tell you honestly when something is a moment versus a movement. The goal is always a space that feels current today and still feels right ten years from now.
